Consider Your Front Yard When Hardscaping

Most homeowners will spend the majority of time in their backyards, which means their landscaping and hardscaping also tends to be focused on those areas. But there are still plenty of options to add hardscaping features to your front yard to enhance your home’s curb appeal!

Here are a few front yard hardscape ideas you might consider implementing at your Kansas City home.

Find ways to mix hardscaping and landscaping

One of the best ways to use hardscaping to add some curb appeal to your property is to find ways to combine your hard, paved features with the organic features on your property.

If you have a patio space in your front yard, for example, you can soften up the harshness of the concrete by adding grasses, shrubs or other plantings. Or, if you’re interested in creating raised garden beds, you might consider using natural stone or concrete retaining walls instead of simple wooden features. These types of hardscaped retaining walls can add a sense of luxury to your exterior space, and also blend in better with both their natural and hardscaped surroundings, especially if you also use natural stone for walkways or other features on your property.

Beef up your entryways

Hardscaping can be a great way to create a more dramatic focal point for your home’s entryway. For example, you might wish to create a more attractive driveway than just a plain gray concrete slab, or a more unique walkway leading up to your front door. Adding in pavers in or around your driveway or walkway can be a great way to increase visual interest and highlight those areas. You can also revamp your front porch for a more attractive, stately exterior using concrete or stone in a variety of creative ways.

Highlight important areas

You can also use hardscaping to draw attention to certain key areas of your front yard. For example, using stones or natural pavers, as we previously mentioned, can be a great way to create raised garden beds. But these hardscaping elements can also be used to create retaining walls that not only will improve your drainage, but also add a luxurious, stately appearance. When these elements are put into place, you can select plants that will complement the design you’ve created with your hardscaping.

Add color

The concrete or pavers you use for your hardscaping can be stained or otherwise colored in strategic ways to add highlights to your exterior design, or to blend in with your home’s existing color palette or the landscaping elements you’ve put in place. You might find some extra pops of color are needed to create some more visual interest, and hardscaping is a great way to do that.

Hardscaping can enhance your home’s curb appeal, increasing your home value in the process.
